How to Start A Generator without Keys?
What is a generator?
The generator is a useful device that provides electricity during power outages to make our daily life and business operations keep going. A generator mainly consists of alternator, fuel system, voltage regulator, cooling and exhaust systems, lubrication system, battery charger, control panel, and main assembly or frame. Generators come in different electrical and physical configurations and are used in different applications like as a secondary source of electricity in residential and industrial applications. There are a variety of generator brands and their manufacturers and suppliers today.
How does a generator work?
First, you need to know that a generator is not a device that generates electricity. Instead, a generator uses the supplied mechanical energy to force current to flow in a coil through an external circuit. This charge flow constitutes the output current provided by the generator, which is used for various purposes. We can refer to the engine water pump to understand how the generator works. An engine water pump makes water flow not creating water and making it to flow. Simply, a generator generates electricity by capturing the energy of motion and converting it into electricity by forcing electrons from an external source through a circuit.
Types of generator
AC (Alternating Current) generator
The AC generator, also called alternator, is a common device in our life. ACs works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. There are two types of ACs: induction generators and synchronous generators. Since this kind of generator has no brushes, maintenance is virtually free.
DC (Direct Current) generator
This type of generator is often used to operate large motors and electrical equipment that require direct control. In some steady-state applications, DCs reduce fluctuations by smoothing the output voltage with a set of conventional coils around the armature.
How to start a generator without keys?
We have mentioned above that there are many generator brands, so does the generator key, completely matching different generator brands, such as, generac key, kohler key. Now we will talk about how to start a generator without keys.
1. Stand on the exit side of the alternator, find the set of wires just below the ignition switch. You will see black, yellow, green and brown wires. Locate the black wire covered in soft black rubber at the connection point, unplug this connection.
2. Next, you'll find a black harness with two green wires inside the loom. Each green wire will have a black or white stripe of green insulation covering the wire. Unplug either green wire. At this point you will be able to manually start the generator and recoil starter. Pull the rope once, then three times without any choke before choking again. Repeated choking is counterproductive to effective starting of the engine.
3. When you need to shut down the engine, you can plug in either of the previously unplugged wires, or you can shut the engine off with the throttle lever.
