What Is An Oil Filter?
What is an oil filter?
During the working process of the engine, metal wear debris, dust, carbon deposits and colloidal deposits oxidized at high temperatures, water, etc. are continuously mixed into the lubricating oil. The function of the oil filter is to filter out these mechanical impurities and colloids to keep the lubricating oil clean and extend its service life. The oil filter should have strong filtering ability, small flow resistance and long service life.
Filters with different filtration capacities
Generally, several filters with different filtration capacities are installed in the engine lubrication system: aggregate filter, coarse filter and fine filter, which are respectively connected in parallel or in series in the main oil passage, (the one connected in series with the main oil passage is called a full-flow filter, and the one connected in parallel is called a split-flow filter). The coarse filter is connected in series in the main oil passage, which is a full-flow type, and is used to filter out impurities with a particle size of 0.05 mm or more in the oil; while the fine filter is a split flow type, used to filter out impurities with a particle size of 0.001 mm or more of fine impurities.
How does an oil filter work?
The outside of the filter is a metal can with a sealing gasket that holds it tightly to the engine's mating surface. The bottom plate of the tank holds the gasket and is perforated with the surrounding area just inside the gasket. A center hole is threaded to fit the oil filter assembly in the engine block. Inside the jar is filter material, most commonly synthetic fiber. The engine's oil pump sends oil directly to the filter, which enters the filter through holes around the base. Dirty oil passes through the filter media (pushed under pressure) and returns through the center hole, where it re-enters the engine.
How to choose the right oil filter?
Most oil filters look very similar, but small differences in thread or gasket size can make the difference between whether or not an oil filter will work for your vehicle. The best way to determine which oil filter you need is to consult your owner's manual or refer to a parts catalog. Using the wrong filter can cause oil to leak out of the engine, or an improper filter can fall off, both of which can lead to serious engine damage. Therefore, choosing the correct oil filter for your vehicle is crucial. Luckily, MyMRO can offer you with high-quality and different oil filter model for your vehicle, such as kawasaki 49065 0721 oil filter.
How to install the oil filter?
It is recommended to change the oil filter in our vehicle every six months. The following is about oil filter installation procedure.
1. Drain or blot old oil.
2. Loosen the fixing screws and remove the old oil filter.
3. Apply a layer of engine oil on the sealing ring of the new oil filter.
4. Install a new oil filter and tighten the fixing screws.
